On interest rates
Rates change frequently and are set per applicant, so we do not republish a figure here. Check Bajaj Finserv’s current rate on their own site, then work out the real cost with our EMI calculator.
How the Flexi loan actually works
A limit is sanctioned — say ₹10 lakh. You withdraw from it as you need, and interest is charged only on the amount withdrawn, not on the limit. Draw ₹4 lakh and you pay interest on ₹4 lakh. Repay some of it and your interest falls again. Multiple withdrawals and part-prepayments are allowed within the term.
The Hybrid variant adds a second idea. The tenure is split in two: during the initial period you may pay interest-only instalments, and only in the later period does the EMI include principal as well. The early instalments are therefore much smaller.
Both features are genuinely useful, and both are worth understanding precisely before you use them, because they change what an EMI means.
Did you know?
An interest-only EMI does not reduce your loan at all. Paying ₹9,000 a month for two years on an interest-only period feels like repayment, but at the end of those two years you owe exactly what you owed at the start — you have paid roughly ₹2.16 lakh and cleared no principal whatsoever. The full principal still has to be repaid in the shorter period that follows, which is why instalments rise sharply at the switchover. Know the date that happens before you sign.
Who this genuinely suits
- Uneven or seasonal income. Self-employed borrowers who earn in bursts can draw and repay around their cash flow instead of against a fixed date.
- Staged spending. A renovation, a course paid semester by semester, a medical treatment with an uncertain total — you avoid paying interest on money you have not yet needed.
- Uncertain totals. Where you might need ₹4 lakh or might need ₹9 lakh, a limit is more sensible than guessing and borrowing the higher figure.
- Borrowers who prepay. Part-prepayments within the Flexi structure do not attract the charge a term loan usually carries.
And who should avoid it
If you need a known amount for a known purpose — consolidating debt, a wedding, one clear expense — a plain term loan is simpler and usually cheaper in total. The Flexi structure earns its keep only when the drawdown pattern is genuinely uneven.
The larger risk is behavioural. An available limit sitting in an app is not the same as a closed loan, and it is drawn on far more easily. Borrowers who consolidate their debts into a Flexi loan and then redraw the limit end up owing more than they started with — the same trap described on our debt consolidation page. If you know that is a risk for you, take the term loan.
Expert insight
Compare a Flexi offer against a term loan on total rupees repaid, never on the EMI. The Flexi EMI will always look better during the interest-only period, because it is not repaying anything. Take both offers, put them through an EMI calculator at the same amount and the same total tenure, and look only at the final repaid figure. If the Flexi still wins on your actual drawdown pattern, it is the right product. If it only wins on the monthly number, it is not.

As an NBFC, Bajaj is generally more accommodating than a bank on score, employer type and documentation — and prices that flexibility in. If your profile is strong enough for a bank, check a bank first; if it is not, this is a realistic route. What your score is worth is set out on our CIBIL score page.

Questions this page gets asked
What is a Bajaj Flexi personal loan?
A sanctioned limit you draw from as needed, with interest charged only on the amount withdrawn rather than on the whole limit. Multiple withdrawals and part-prepayments are permitted.
How is the Flexi Hybrid different?
It splits the tenure. In the initial period you may pay interest-only instalments; principal is repaid only in the later period, so instalments rise at the switchover.
Do interest-only EMIs reduce my loan?
No. They cover interest alone. At the end of an interest-only period you owe exactly what you owed at the start.
Is a Flexi loan cheaper than a term loan?
Only if your drawdown is genuinely uneven. If you need the full amount immediately, a term loan is usually cheaper in total.
Are there part-prepayment charges?
Part-prepayments within the Flexi structure generally do not attract the charge a term loan carries. Confirm the terms in your sanction letter.
What credit score do I need?
Around 685 and above is the commonly stated bar — lower than most banks, which is typical of an NBFC.
Can self-employed applicants apply?
Yes, and the Flexi structure suits irregular income better than a fixed EMI does. See our self-employed page.
Is an NBFC loan safe?
Yes, when the NBFC is RBI-registered, as Bajaj Finance is. The trade-off against a bank is rate, not safety.
Conclusion
Bajaj's Flexi structure is one of the few genuinely different products in Indian personal lending, and it is a good fit for uneven income and staged spending. It is a poor fit for a single known expense, where a plain term loan costs less and tempts you less.
If you are considering it, do one thing before signing: compare it against a term loan on total rupees repaid rather than on the monthly instalment, and find out exactly when the interest-only period ends. Other lenders are covered under personal loan by NBFC.
