On interest rates
Rates change frequently and are set per applicant, so we do not republish a figure here. Check Bank of Baroda’s current rate on their own site, then work out the real cost with our EMI calculator.
Applying alone, and why it matters
Across this site the standard advice when a sanction falls short is to add an earning co-applicant. It works almost everywhere, and it is usually the fastest lever available. Bank of Baroda is the exception — applications here are generally considered on an individual basis, with the narrow exception of pensioners over 70, who may be required to have one.
So the arithmetic here has to work on your income alone. If your own figures do not support the amount you need, this is not a lender where a spouse's salary rescues the file. The choices become reducing the amount, clearing an existing obligation to free up headroom, or applying somewhere that permits a joint application — YES Bank, for instance, allows parents, spouse or earning children as co-borrowers.
Work out where you stand on your own income first, using our eligibility calculator. If the answer is comfortably above what you need, the rule costs you nothing. If it is close, choose a different lender rather than hoping.
Pensioners: a wider door than most
This is where Bank of Baroda is genuinely useful. Eligibility extends to pensioners and family pensioners drawing pension through a BoB branch — and also to those whose pension is disbursed through the treasury or the Defence Pension Disbursing Office directly into their savings account.
That second route matters. Most public sector schemes, PNB's included, require the pension to arrive through their own branch. Defence pensioners paid via DPDO are frequently shut out on that technicality, and here they are not.
| Pensioner age | Position |
|---|---|
| Under 70 | Up to around ₹3 lakh, applying individually |
| Over 70 | Up to around ₹1.5 lakh, with a co-applicant |
The amounts are more modest than PNB's pension scheme. The trade is access: a smaller loan you qualify for beats a larger one you do not. More on the general position is on our pensioners page.
Did you know?
Bank of Baroda's minimum income of around ₹20,000 a month is stated for urban and semi-urban applicants and is described as negotiable in rural areas at the bank's discretion. Very few lenders formally acknowledge that the same salary means different things in different places, and for a rural applicant that discretion can be the difference between an application and a decline. It is worth asking about directly at a branch rather than assuming the published figure is fixed.
Eligibility
- Employer — central or state government, public and private sector undertakings, joint sector companies, multinationals and educational institutions.
- Service — at least one year of continuous service.
- Age — from 21, with age plus repayment period not exceeding retirement age or 60, whichever is lower.
- Credit score — around 701 as a minimum, with 750 and above giving faster approval and better pricing.
Note the age rule works the same way as at Axis — it is applied at the end of the loan, not the start, so it shortens the tenure available to older applicants and raises their EMI.
Expert insight
Where a lender will not accept a co-applicant, the most productive step before applying is to remove an obligation rather than add income. Closing one small running loan, or clearing a credit card balance before the statement date, frees up FOIR headroom immediately and improves the score at the same time. On a ₹20,000 income the ₹5,000 EMI you retire is worth roughly ₹2.2 lakh of additional borrowing capacity — considerably more than most people expect from clearing a small debt.

Questions this page gets asked
Can I add a co-applicant to a Bank of Baroda personal loan?
Generally no. Applications are considered individually, with a narrow exception for pensioners over 70, who may need one.
What is the minimum salary?
Around ₹20,000 a month for urban and semi-urban applicants, and negotiable in rural areas at the bank's discretion.
Can pensioners paid through the treasury or DPDO apply?
Yes. That is one of the more useful features here — the pension does not have to arrive through a BoB branch.
How much can a pensioner borrow?
Around ₹3 lakh below 70, and around ₹1.5 lakh above 70 with a co-applicant.
What CIBIL score is needed?
About 701 as a minimum, with 750 and above producing faster approval and better terms.
How long must I have been employed?
At least one year of continuous service.
What is the maximum loan?
Up to around ₹20 lakh, depending on your occupation and relationship with the bank.
What if my income alone is not enough?
Either clear an existing obligation to free up headroom, or apply where a co-borrower is permitted — see our YES Bank page.
Conclusion
Bank of Baroda is a good fit for two groups: pensioners whose pension arrives through the treasury or DPDO and who are shut out elsewhere, and salaried applicants whose own income comfortably supports what they need.
It is a poor fit for anyone counting on a spouse's income to bridge a gap, because that route is generally closed here. Check your own numbers first — if they are tight, clear an obligation or choose a lender that allows a co-borrower. Other options are on our banks page.
