On interest rates
Rates change frequently and are set per applicant, so we do not republish a figure here. Check Tata Capital’s current rate on their own site, then work out the real cost with our EMI calculator.
Not every NBFC is a fallback
The general rule on our NBFC page holds: NBFCs accept weaker scores than banks and charge more for it. But "NBFC" covers a very wide range, from lenders who will work with a 620 score to lenders who compete directly with banks for prime borrowers.
Tata Capital sits at the second end. A score around 725 is what it looks for — above several banks' stated minimum of 700, and far above the 650 or so that the more flexible NBFCs will consider. If a bank declined you on score, this is unlikely to be the answer.
What you get in exchange for meeting that bar is NBFC speed and process without the pricing that usually accompanies a weak file. For a borrower with a good score who simply wants a faster decision than a branch can give, that is a sensible trade.
Eligibility
| Criterion | Salaried | Self-employed |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 21 to 58 | 21 to 58 |
| Credit score | Around 725 | Around 725 |
| Stability | 1 to 2 years of work history | 3 years in the business |
| Income proof | Payslips and bank statements | ITR, P&L and balance sheet |
| Loan range | ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh | |
Published minimum income figures vary between sources, which is common for NBFCs because the real test is not a stated floor — it is whether your income supports the EMI after existing obligations. Our eligibility calculator is a better guide to what you will actually be offered than any minimum salary figure.
Did you know?
The loan range starting at ₹40,000 matters more than it looks. Many lenders will not write a personal loan below ₹1 lakh, because the processing cost is the same whatever the size — which pushes borrowers who need ₹50,000 into borrowing twice that, or onto a credit card at double the rate. If your genuine need is small, a lender with a low floor is worth seeking out rather than rounding your requirement up to fit the market.
Expert insight
Before assuming an NBFC is your only route, find out why the bank actually declined you. Applicants routinely believe it was the score when it was the job tenure, the employer grade, or an old loan still showing as open on the bureau — and the last of those is free to fix. A rejection reason is worth asking for in writing, because applying to progressively more expensive lenders to solve a problem that was never about pricing is how people end up paying five points more than they needed to.
Who this suits
- Good-score borrowers wanting speed rather than a branch process.
- Established self-employed applicants with three years of filings behind them.
- Anyone needing a small amount, given the low floor.
- Borrowers who want an NBFC's flexibility on documentation without a weak-file rate.
It suits poorly anyone whose score is below about 700, or a self-employed applicant with under three years of business history. Those profiles are covered on our low CIBIL page and loan without ITR page.

Questions this page gets asked
What CIBIL score does Tata Capital need?
Around 725, which is higher than several banks' stated minimum and well above what the more flexible NBFCs accept.
Is it easier to get a loan from an NBFC than a bank?
Generally yes, but not universally. Tata Capital competes for prime borrowers, so a file declined by a bank on score will often be declined here too.
How much can I borrow?
The range runs from about ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh. What you are offered depends on income against existing EMIs.
What is the minimum income?
Published figures vary. The practical test is whether your income supports the EMI after existing obligations rather than any stated floor.
Can self-employed applicants apply?
Yes, generally with three years in the business and ITRs to support it.
Is an NBFC loan safe?
From an RBI-registered NBFC, yes. Tata Capital is RBI-registered. The trade-off against a bank is pricing, not safety.
Can I move this loan to a bank later?
Yes, by balance transfer once your profile improves. Check whether it pays on our balance transfer calculator.
What is the maximum age?
Around 58, which shortens the tenure available to applicants in their fifties.
Conclusion
Tata Capital is an NBFC that behaves like a bank on criteria and like an NBFC on speed. For a borrower with a good score that combination is genuinely useful.
If you are here because a bank refused you, find out the actual reason first — it is often something other than the score, and sometimes free to fix. Applying to a lender with a similar bar simply repeats the decline and costs another enquiry. Other options are on our NBFC page.
