Axis has built its card business around partnerships. Several of its best-known cards carry another brand on the front — a marketplace, a travel platform, a telecom operator — and the reason to pick one is usually that you already spend heavily with that partner.
This changes how you should judge the card. With most issuers you compare reward rates. With Axis, the first question is simpler: do I actually shop there every month? If yes, a co-branded card often beats anything general. If no, the same card is ordinary.
How a Co-Branded Card Differs
Underneath, an Axis card works like every other credit card. Axis sets the limit, sends the statement, charges the interest and reports to the bureaus. The partner brand does not lend you anything.
What the partner adds is where your rewards land. On a co-branded shopping card, points or cashback usually come back as credit inside that platform rather than as a statement credit. That is fine if you shop there anyway. It is close to worthless if your spending shifts elsewhere next year, and partnerships do end.
So read a co-branded card as two things bolted together: a normal credit line, plus a loyalty scheme you cannot move.
What Axis Does Well
- Partner value is concentrated, not spread thin. If a large share of your spending sits with one platform, the earn rate on the matching card is hard to beat with a general card.
- Travel variants are a real category. Frequent flyers get lounge access and conversion into airline programmes rather than generic points.
- The lineup covers both ends. Entry cards for a first cardholder and premium cards for high spenders sit under the same roof.
- Existing customers get a shorter route. A salary account with Axis usually means less paperwork and a faster decision.
What the Card Carries
- Accelerated rewards or cashback with the partner brand, standard rates elsewhere
- Fuel surcharge waiver within a monthly cap
- EMI conversion on large purchases
- Lounge access on travel and premium variants, often spend-linked
- Milestone benefits at annual spending thresholds
- Add-on cards billed to the primary holder
Worth knowing: co-branding agreements get renegotiated. The earn rate you sign up for is not guaranteed for the life of the card, and issuers revise reward terms with notice. Take the current benefit as this year's deal, not a permanent one.
Who Axis Approves
| Factor | What it affects | How to help yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Credit score | Whether you clear the first filter | 750+ is comfortable; entry variants go lower |
| Income | Your limit and the variant offered | Steady documented income beats irregular high income |
| Existing EMIs | Repayment room left | Clear a small loan before applying |
| Axis relationship | Speed and paperwork | Salary account or existing deposits both count |
| Employment type | Which documents apply | Salaried: slips. Self-employed: two years of ITR |
| City | Which variants are serviced | Premium variants concentrate in metros |
Income requirements sit with the individual card. Check yours on Axis Bank's own site — we do not reprint issuer figures here because they change.
What to Keep Ready
| Document | Salaried | Self-employed |
|---|---|---|
| PAN | Required | Required |
| Aadhaar or other KYC | Required | Required |
| Address proof | Required | Required |
| Income proof | Recent salary slips | ITR, usually two years |
| Bank statements | 3–6 months | 6–12 months |
| Business proof | Not needed | Registration or GST papers |
The Part the Rewards Do Not Cover
Pay the statement in full by the due date and the credit costs nothing. Pay less and interest applies to the entire balance, new purchases lose their interest-free window, and cash withdrawals charge interest from day one plus a fee.
Market card interest runs near 3.5% a month, about 42% a year. Your exact rate is printed on your statement.
Here is the part worth sitting with: a good co-branded card might return 5% on partner spending. Carrying a balance costs roughly 42% a year. One month of revolving wipes out many months of rewards. The reward rate only matters to people who clear the bill.
Priya's Partner Card, Doing the Maths
Priya shops ₹15,000 a month on one marketplace and picks the matching Axis card. At 5% back, that is ₹750 a month, or ₹9,000 over a year. Good value, and the reason she chose it.
In March she pays only the minimum on a ₹45,000 statement.
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Statement | ₹45,000 |
| Minimum paid (5%) | ₹2,250 |
| Balance carried | ₹42,750 |
| Interest that month at 3.5% | ₹1,496 |
| A year at this rate | roughly ₹17,000 in interest |
Her ₹9,000 of annual rewards is now a net loss of about ₹8,000. The card did nothing wrong. The balance did.
This is the honest test for any co-branded card: it is worth having only if you were going to spend that money anyway and you clear the statement every month.
Applying, Step by Step
- Check your free credit report and correct errors before applying.
- Work out your real partner spending from three months of statements. If it is small, pick a general card instead.
- Look for a pre-approved offer in Axis net banking or the app if you already bank there.
- Apply online or at a branch. Branch helps when income is harder to document.
- Complete KYC, by video where offered.
- Track with the reference number instead of reapplying.
- Activate within 30 days, set the PIN, and register the card in the partner app so rewards actually land.
Where It Wins and Where It Does Not
Strong points
- Best-in-class returns if your spending matches the partner
- Serious travel variants with airline programme transfers
- Range covers both first-time and high-spend cardholders
- Faster route for existing Axis customers
Weak points
- Value collapses if your spending moves away from the partner
- Reward terms and partnerships can and do change
- Rewards often locked inside the partner platform, not cash
- Milestone benefits need spending you may not naturally do

Questions this page gets asked
Is a co-branded Axis card issued by the partner brand?
No. Axis Bank issues it, sets your limit, charges the interest and reports to the bureaus. The partner supplies the rewards programme and the branding.
What credit score do I need?
No published cut-off, and it varies by variant. 750 and above is comfortable for most of the lineup; entry cards go lower.
What happens if the partnership ends?
Your credit line continues, but the reward structure can change. Issuers give notice of changes to terms. Treat the current earn rate as this year's arrangement.
Can I redeem partner rewards as cash?
Usually not. On most co-branded cards the value returns as credit inside the partner platform. Check your card's redemption terms before assuming otherwise.
Is a co-branded card worth an annual fee?
Only if your genuine annual spending with that partner earns back more than the fee. Work it out from your last twelve months of statements, not from what you intend to spend.
Can I hold two Axis cards?
It is possible, subject to income and existing exposure. Consider whether you need it — each card is another due date and another account on your report.
My application was rejected. What next?
Do not apply again straight away. Find the reason, fix it, then wait. Our page on rejected applications covers the sequence.
Do This Before You Choose the Card
- Add up twelve months of spending with the partner. Not what you plan to spend — what you actually did.
- Compare that number against the annual fee and the earn rate. If it does not clear the fee comfortably, a plain cashback card is the better card.
- Check where the rewards land and whether you would use them there. Points you cannot spend are not a benefit.
Co-branded cards reward a habit you already have. They are a poor reason to build a new one.
